Wilsonville Real Estate

If you’re looking for a home in the Pacific Northwest, you’re certainly not alone. The American Northwest is rapidly growing as one of the most popular options for American homebuyers: here, potential buyers can find exactly what they’re looking for at every price point and for every need. One great asset to the market in the Northwest is Wilsonville real estate. Wilsonville real estate is part of the greater Portland metropolitan area, and it offers residents the opportunity to be part of a culturally rich and vibrant community without having to live in the heart of a big city. Wilsonville real estate is a great choice for many families.

Wilsonville can be found in Clackamas County, as part of the Willamette River Valley. The town has easy access to Interstate 5, which more or less cuts right through the center of town. Today, the population of the town is between 17,000 and 18,000.

Early in Wilsonville’s history, it was known as Boones Landing after the ferry that operated from the site. It was established by Alphonse Boone, who is perhaps most famous for simply being the son of the great Daniel Boone. Boones Ferry is no longer in operation, but Boone Bridge was opened in the 1950s at the same spot, giving residents an easy way to cross the river.

At the end of the 19th century, Boones Landing was renamed as Wilsonville after the town’s first postmaster. The town was eventually incorporated in 1969, giving rise to modern Wilsonville real estate.

Wilsonville real estate has a number of unusual claims to fame. One centers around Gordon House, which was the only Frank Lloyd Wright house to be built in the state of Oregon. Today, the building resides in the Oregon Garden. Another unusual fact is that Wilsonville real estate was the original home of the Dammasch State Mental Hospital, which was eventually closed to make way for the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. There was quite a bit of public outcry against the placement of a prison on Wilsonville real estate – perhaps the oddest of which came in the form of a resident who erected school buses on his property. Today, the grounds are being developed as a residential complex.

No matter what your family needs and where your priorities lie, Wilsonville real estate can give you what you’re looking fore. Wilsonville real estate is unique in that it offers residents the chance to be a part of a community that shares a rich, interesting history that draws them together – but still offers easy access to the riches of Portland. Visiting Wilsonville real estate is a great way to see the many great options the area has to offer.
